Fry Me 613!

613. The number may mean nothing to some and everything to another. 613. Becoming one of the most popular and desirable hair colors among women of color, this pale baby blonde color is popping up everywhere.

But how can one get such a light white blonde with 1B (1 being jet black and 1B meaning natural off black-brown) hair?

The safest route COULD be to go to the salon, besides they do have a degree in “I’m not gonna f*ck it up”, but as we all have heard mistakes happen.

Hair-Level-Chart

Lightening your hair level from a 2 to a 9 and above is difficult for anyone, including professionals, so that should always be your first thought.

If you choose to do it at home just know, its OK to spend money on more than a two dollar packet of BW2, just make sure its money well spent.

Sometimes if you go to a salon, they can decline you from getting the bleaching process done there due to your hair health or limited experience. If this happens to you, ask why. If the reason is limited experience, try a different salon, if the reason is your hair health, L-I-S-T-E-N!!!!! If they don’t know anything, they know more than you so listen.

Bleach can be extremely damaging to the hair if not done properly so it’s important to know your hair type and hair condition. Its better to go from an A to a C than a C to an F right? Hair is the same way, that’s why hair stylists always (or should) start with healthy hair whenever doing a chemical process.  Any idiot can tell if they have healthy hair or not. Here are some amazing tips by Robyn Lines:

  • Pluck out a strand of your hair and drop it into a bowl of water. Tap the hair lightly and see if it sinks or floats.

If it Floats
The hair is healthy. There is no or little sun or processing damage.

If it Sinks
The hair is damaged and has become porous.

  • Pluck out a strand from the root. Check to see if the root of the hair has a bulb

Yes Bulb
The hair is healthy

No or Little Bulb
The hair follicle isn’t healthy. This may cause hair thinning or balding.

And if all else fails… GET A CLOSURE!

A closure, silk based or lace, allows you to be versatile with any style that you choose whether curly or straight or black or blonde without damaging your hair. If unsure of a color, this also allows you to explore without having to go through that “bright orange instead of honey blonde” stage.

Do I have to dye my closure myself? NO! 🙂

Hair companies such as Princess Hair Shop, the VIrgin Hair Fantasy and Bella Dream Hair sell closures that come 1B/613, 613, 1B, and even blue! It’s an endless variety and if they can’t do a color you want, I suggest getting a closure in the color 613 to use as a blank canvas.

The point is, if you’re going to fry yourself 613, think about how healthy it is for your hair and if you want your color to be done by a professional or want a do-it-yourself project. If that fails, then just get some weave girl!
